Another year has come and gone. Vanished right before our eyes. I'm not sure how to even begin to describe this year or how to put into words the way I feel about 2011. But for now I am content to say that this has been the best year of my photographic career filled with many highlights, beautiful birds, new friends and great trips. This year found me in Ecuador, all around British Columbia, in Costa Rica, Churchill, Newfoundland and finally on an epic 3 month expedition in Peru. I definitely got a lot of air miles this year! 2011 started out with a 5 week trip to Ecuador in January to lead two very exciting bird photgraphy workshops. |
Up next was a bit of quality time at home here on Vancouver Island. I got in a few great shoots and had two terrific groups of workshop participants for my trips in early March. If you want more information on how to join me in Victoria for a fantastic photo shoot - Click Here |
Before long it was time to head off again back to the tropics. For three weeks in Marcha nd April I was in the beautiful country of Costa Rica to lead a photo workshop and track down a few species that I had missed out on in previous visits. The highlight for me was getting shots of hummingbirds bathing. I had dreamed about doing this shoot for many years and finally made it happen :) |
With the arrival of spring in North America it was time for me to get to work on some local species. As usual I had my targets both on Vancouver Island and also in the interior of BC. I just love road tripping around Canada! |
June found me up in northern Manitoba in beautiful Churchill. I just love it up there! We had unbelievable weather for our workshop up there and lots of very cooperative birds. It was a fantastic time! In case you are interested in more details about the trips I lead to Churchill - Click Here |
In July I flew from coast to coast all the way from Victoria to St. John's. Newfoundland is a place that I had wanted to visit for a long time and I was finally able to make it a reality. The scenery, wonderful people and great birds all made for such a great trip. I would go back there in a second. |
As September drew near I began preparations for my major trip of the year. Below are some images I took during a 3 month long trip to Peru. With over 1800 species of birds Peru ranks second to only Columbia in terms of bird diversity. Let me tell you that there are some absolutely stunning birds. From the Andean Cock of the Rock to the Marvelous Spatuletail I had my hands full down there! This gallery represents just a few of my favourites from this trip. Stay tuned on my website and newsletter for more... Starting in 2013 I will be leading Photo Workshops to this exciting destination. To join the wish list for 2013 send me an email. |
